The Cleveland Health Sciences Library accepts gifts-in-kind, or non-monetary donations, which are compatible with the Library's collection policy. CHSL reserves the right to limit such gifts to those which substantially benefit the Library and are cost effective to receive, catalog, process, maintain, and preserve. As a rule, CHSL requests a list of titles, authors, and editions of books prior to donation so that CHSL staff can review them.
CHSL assumes ownership of all donations and reserves the right to add donated materials to its collections or to exchange, sell, or discard them. CHSL accepts donated collections which must be kept intact or items offered conditionally, temporarily, or with restrictions only in unusual cases of exceptionally rare and valuable items.
All donors will be asked to complete a short Donation Agreement when donations are made.
Appraisals
Appraisal and documentation of materials for tax purposes is the responsibility of the donor. CHSL can help connect you with qualified appraisers.
Archival Material
Please email University Archives staff if you would like to donate archival material to the Case Western Reserve libraries.
Books & Office Cleanouts
If you would like to donate books, or you are cleaning out an office and would like someone from the Library to take a look at books before they are discarded, please contact CHSL's Collection Development Librarian, Tom Hayes.
If CHSL is unable to accept your donation, please consider donating your books to Better World Books, Zubal Books, or donating to your local/regional library.
